We are pleased to announce our SPECIAL GUEST INTERNATIONAL MARATHON SWIMMING HALL OF FAMER LYNNE COX will be at the 2016 Alcatraz Invitational!

Lynne Cox is a legendary marathon swimmer who has successfully completed several solo swims across the English Channel, Catalina Channel, Bering Strait, Cook Strait, and Strait of Gibraltar. She has a long history of breaking marathon swimming records including:

  • Fastest English Channel Crossing for both men and women (1972 & 1973)
  • Fastest Catalina Channel Crossing for both men and women (1974)
  • First woman to swim Cook Strait (1975)
  • First person to swim the Strait of Magellan (1976)
  • First person to swim the Cape of Good Hope (1976)
  • Swam "Around the World in 80 Days" successfully completing 12 of the hardest swims in the world including Five Lakes of Mount Fuji, Strait of Gibraltar, and Strait of Messina (1984)
  • First person to swim the Bering Strait (1987)
  • First person to swim across Lake Baikal (1988)
  • First person to swim across the Beagle Channel (1990)
  • First preson to swim across Lake Titicaca (1992)
  • First person to swim 1.6 km in Neko Harbor, Antarctica (2002)

Cox is an accomplished author also having written Swimming to Antarctica, Grayson, South with the Sun: Roald Amundsen, His Polar Explorations, and the Quest for Discovery, The Day the Whale Came, and Open Water Swimming Manual: An Expert's Survival Guide For Triathletes And Open Water Swimmers. She will be launching her brand new book Swimming In The Sink: An Episode of the Heart at this year's Alcatraz Invitational!
